Singapore Work Passes Explained: Employment Pass, S Pass and Work Permit (2026)

Last reviewed: 25 October 2026. Salary thresholds are reviewed regularly by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM).

Singapore has several work pass types, and which one you get depends on your job, salary and skills. This guide gives a clear overview.

Quick answer

  • Employment Pass (EP) is for professionals, managers and executives. A June 2026 guide gives the minimum qualifying salary as S$5,600 a month for younger candidates in most industries, and S$6,200 in financial services, with higher amounts for older and more experienced applicants.
  • COMPASS: most applicants need at least 40 points.
  • S Pass and Work Permit are for mid-skilled and lower-skilled workers, with salary rules, quotas and levies. We did not verify current figures, so check MOM.
  • Your employer applies for the pass. You do not apply on your own for most work passes.

How to check an offer

  1. Ask the employer to confirm which pass they will apply for.
  2. Check the salary against the MOM self-assessment tool.
  3. Never pay a “pass fee” or “job fee” to an agent.

Red flags and scams

  • Anyone asking you to pay for a job offer, a work permit or a “guaranteed” visa.
  • Job adverts with very high pay for beginners, or no interview.
  • Contact only through WhatsApp, Telegram or a free email address with no company website or address.
  • Fake government sites. Use only the official government website of the country.

If you think you have been targeted, stop paying, keep all messages and receipts, and report it to the Singapore Police Force. You can also email us at info@careerjobss.com.
